Proverbs 10 - Back and Forth

I call this the back and forth scripture because it is constantly contrasting the righteous and the wicked, almost verse by verse. It is often easier to read if you extract all the sayings of the righteous and group them together, and then the sayings of the wicked and group them together. You will get the point either way. It almost seems like Job's counsel of "friends" had access to this scripture as they seem to keep pointing out to Job that he must have sinned or done something wicked for all the calamity to come upon him. This is good to keep in mind when reading this scripture because it does not ever say that bad things will not happen to good people. We all know they do, but they are worked out for the glory of God and the good will prosper in spite of hard times. What it is saying is that the way of the wicked will always be a crooked, rough path, and lead to destruction. Their plans will be thwarted, their riches will be squandered, their name will go down to the grave with them. They will not even be a footnote in history

10:11 The words of the godly are a life-giving fountain; the words of the wicked conceal violent intentions.
How welcome is truth spoken in love from a godly person. How many times have you had others speak the words of truth, kindness, and love to you when you really needed it the most. These people are God's messengers in your time of need. We need to be on watch for those messages

10:12 Hatred stirs up quarrels, but love makes up for all offenses (NLT)
This scripture has different meaning if read from different translations. Hatred just wants to be right and pick a fight, whereas love tries to make up for all offenses. Even though you may have sin in your life or committed sin towards another, love for others or for that person will cause you to want to make it right with that person

10:12 Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins (NKJV)
The meaning to this seems to be more that hatred causes strife by spreading gossip, whereas love will not speak of an others sins, thereby covering them and saving that person from embarrassment, humiliation, etc.

I have seen both, have you?
