Proverbs 3 - Mercy and Truth

3:3 Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart

Mercy and truth are a common theme with God. He talks about them in Psalms, Proverbs, the New Testament and throughout the entire bible God's message to us can be wrapped up into these 2 words.

Mercy - 1. Compassionate treatment, especially of those under one's power; clemency. 2. A disposition to be kind and forgiving:
Truth -(A) the state of being the case, the body of real things, events, and facts, a transcendent fundamental or spiritual reality (B) a judgment, proposition, or idea that is true or (C) the body of true statements and propositions

The promise for us to live with mercy and truth bound around our necks is not a burden. In fact, just the opposite is true. Scripture says that we will find favor with God and man. We will be esteemed. I am trying my best to be a merciful as possible. It is somewhat ironic that even before I embarked on this journey that my goal at the beginning of 2008 had an element of mercy. I wanted to see the good in everyone and everything and I wanted to make sure that I accentuated that to them. Edification. I guess you could consider this part of mercy. The fact is that mercy and truth are extremely hard to define in a few sentences. It is a way of life. It has to emanate out of us and that can only be done by the Holy Spirit. We were made in the image of God, and God's image is mercy and truth. Only by getting back to who God truly meant us to be can we reflect that image.

Okay, I have to give MJ some air time!

Amen! To become bulletproof, we have to forgive a lot of people. Even though the same forgiveness may not come our way. Do good anyway and keep moving forward!
