Proverbs 19 - True Friends

19:7 When you're down on your luck, even your family avoids you— yes, even your best friends wish you'd get lost. If they see you coming, they look the other way— out of sight, out of mind.

Wow, this is powerful and very true. I have experienced how friends will turn their backs on you, they even become condescending of you. Look at Job. His friends, who had known him all his life, turned on him and accused him of being unfaithful, sinful, and wretched. I know in the last 10 years I have seen my friends go from many to few. I can count my true friends on one hand. I wish I had more, but I never want the kind of friends that will turn their backs on you in time of trouble. Why is this? Aren't true friends supposed to be there through thick and thin? Most are not but if you do find one who is, then you need to cherish and hang onto that friend forever. Maybe this has to do with the kind of friend you/I are/am. We also need to be the kind of friend who is there through thick and thin. Have you ever turned your back on a friend? Do you have any friends out there right now who need you?
